A long time ago on an island far, far away Nick worked at Little Creatures Brewery in Perth and a love of craft beer was born. In a parallel reality, Austen was discovering a kaleidoscope of specialist beers, working bars in Belgium, and hanging out at The Evening Star. So when our worlds collided at The Urchin, we dreamt of making our own beer. That dream came true in 2016 when we became fully independent.
After a couple of years playing on a homebrew kit, Nick's beer started to taste pretty good. So in August 2018 we installed a little brewery downstairs at The Urchin.
We called it Larrikin, which is an Australian name for an unconventional, lovable rogue; a street urchin, larkin’ around. Since then we’ve grown a little bit and now we have capacity to brew three times a week. We're very happy to remain small, producing just enough to maintain 6 taps in The Urchin and a bit more to share with our favourite local pubs and to put into cans. 100% of our brewing and packaging happens at The Urchin.
The great thing about producing at this level and serving hyper-local is that our beer is always super fresh. We generally transfer to keg or can on a Wednesday morning and start delivering the same afternoon, which means you can have beer in your glass that started the day in the fermenter. It also means that we can experiment with new beers every week.
Hope you enjoy!
